How to Love Your Children’s Mother

• Do something special for your wife this week: Get her long-stemmed roses, arrange a surprise date night, write a love letter, etc.

• Devise a secret sign that you and your spouse can use to help each other recognize when emotions are escalating during a conflict.

• Ask how you can relieve some of the pressure your children’s mom feels as a mother.

• Honor your children’s mom in their presence. Compliment her often and make sure your children show her respect.

• Have a “state of the union” discussion with your wife. Ask her what you can do to help build a better marriage.

• Schedule a time when you and your wife can get away alone and do something fun together.

• Compliment your wife for using one of her spiritual gifts or for a way in which she is serving others.

• Are you a divorced dad? It’s still important for you to show respect to your kids’ mom and encourage them to honor her. Help them plan for Mother’s Day—in May or at any other time of year.

• Thank your wife for a specific way in which she helps you to be a better dad.

• Plan an outing or vacation with your wife, aiming to make it an experience she’ll remember fondly for a long, long time.

• Enlist your kids’ help in doing something special for their mother, whether it’s making a gift, shopping for one, or cleaning the house.

• Ask your children what qualities they’re looking for in a future mate. Often their answers will reflect something about your marriage.
